ABOUT THE EVENT
FREE TO ALL!
As part of a national celebration of the power of the bike and in the build up to the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, Craic Events with support from Event Scotlands National Community Cycling Fund, are hosting the Cairngorms Cycle Festival.
A community cycling event based in Macdonalds Resort in the centre of Aviemore on June 24th with many activities all of which will be free for everyone, inviting and engaging with particular focus on highlighting & utilising the numerous safe off road trails & routes in the area.
With support from the Cairngorms National Park Authority, the Cairngorms Trust, the Cairngorms Business Partnership and many local bikes shops the event is a free cycle festival open to all.
The event will be free, inviting and engaging to all, with particular focus on
- Highlighting & utilising the numerous safe off road trails & routes in the area
- Riding safe and easy routes to get from home to village and town centres, so that some car journey can be effectively reduced.
- Inclusion for older & new riders who have yet to experience e-bikes, and therefore not yet aware of the huge potential for general day-to-day travel and life
1. DOCTOR BIKE SERVICE
Aviemore based outfit Back Country are providing a ‘Doctor bike’ service, an informal drop in centre where they offer safety checks and minor repairs / adjustments offer advice on the importance of simple regular maintenance. Bothy Bikes have a philosophy of ‘ride what you’ve got’ repair and reuse. and that it’s important to realize that the bicycle you have is the best bet of getting outside, benefiting mental and physical health and inspiring their children to make better choices and helping mother earth to boot!
2. SKILLS COURSE
Inverness based Sender Ramps are offering small skills course for kids & upwards using their own bikes. Ride over, around and through obstacles and features in a fun packed intro session 45 Min Sessions starting on the hr.
10am – 11am Over 16s
11am – 12pm Under 16s
12pm – 1pm Over 16s
1pm – 2pm Under 16s
2pm – 3pm Over 16s
3pm – 4pm Under 16s
4pm – 5pm Over 16s
Riders must have a helmet which is properly fitting and a bike in good working order (serviced recently) with bar ends plugged. Pre registering is essential CLICK HERE TO REGISTER
3. ADAPTIVE BIKES
Have a go on one of Able 2 Adventure’s fleet of adaptive bikes at their drop in taster session at Cairngorms Cycle Festival 2023 festival hub in Aviemore
There is a range of adaptive bikes including trikes, tandem trikes, handcycles, side by side Tandems and Mhor!.
Exciting new additions to the fleet include a Bowhead Rogue E-assist handcycle, an Ice Trike Adventure E-assist & a Wike Special Needs (Large)
The session will allow you time to look at the range of equipment, get fitted to a cycle that you would like to try and go for a test ride in the Festival Cycling Area. Its a great opportunity to talk to Able 2 Adventure Staff about our Adaptive Cycle & Off-road Wheelchair Fleet and exploring accessible places in the Cairngorms.
4. ELECTRIC BIKES
Cairngorm Trust will be providing various electric bikes for you to try along with information on their Active Cairngorms E bike project ACE which gives access for local residents to borrow an electric bike to encourage people to get into cycling.
If after trying an Electric Bike and you are tempted Alpine Bikes, based in Tiso’s will be offering further free demonstration rides from their shop, & just to tempt you even further they are offering Interest free on purchases
5. BALANCE BIKES & MOUNTAIN BIKES
Activity Zone who are permanently based at Macdonalds Resort are offering free drop sessions for you & the young ones to try balance bikes & mountain bikes.
6. WEE BIKE HUB
Based in Kingussie Wee Bike Hub will be on site offering free goes on a selection of their bikes
7. FOOD STALLS
Macdonald resorts will be running food stalls including, BBQ, Crepes, Ice Cream and a Beer Garden
8. CINEMA
Aviemore Ice Rink, will be hosting a cinema featuring various cycle videos & pictures from the area and keep us all updated with the progress of all the various rides in from the satellite / spoke towns
9. DIGITAL CYCLE ROUTE MAPPING
Cairngorms Business Partnership will be showcasing the new digital mapping service of all the superb off road cycle trails
10. BIKE EQUIPMENT CHARITY SALE
Your chance to grab a bike bargain on the day. If you have any unwanted bike equipment or the kids have grown out of their bikes please donate them to the sale as all proceeds are going to the local charities who are at the event. Aviemore Ice Rink have agreed to act as drop off point, Drop off days at Ice Rink June 21/22/23 11am – 5pm.
